WHAT DO YOU WANT?

What do you want? Really want! This is not what you think you should want!  Many of us think we should want certain things because this is what our parents or teachers told us we should want.  Sometimes society tells us that we should want or be impressed by certain things such as the latest fashion or the best car or a certain kind of job.  Many times society tells us “more is more!’.  Are we happier when we get more?  Often the answer is no as we now have something else to maintain or pay for or this new thing has created a bigger need for something else and we are even more dissatisfied.

When we live lives that are not authentically ours, we will feel dissatisfied and unhappy.  Nothing seems to make a difference.  Perhaps you have tried fuelling that hunger with buying things, or getting a better job or more training.  You may have tried going on holiday or taking up a new hobby or watching more television.  Many of us end up eating, smoking, drinking or spending our way out of our emotions of discontent only to find that the solution brings more problems.

The first step in living a life that has meaning and purpose for you is to think of only yourself and not your parents or society or your boss.  This is not to say that you don’t consider the value of others in your life but to really make progress you must be willing to put these people to one side and get clarification.  When you are happy and fulfilled it filters down to everyone else in your life.  You are easier to get along with and more enjoyable to be with because you are happy with yourself.

This workbook will help give you the tools you need to do this.  Please don’t skip any of the exercises as they will help give you clarity.  Be willing to be your own coach and ask yourself the hard questions as well as the easy one.  Some things will need time and thought before you can answer.  Don’t be afraid to sleep on it and come back to it the next day.

So here is the question again, “what do you really want?  Finish the sentence starting with I with I want …….!

Want More?

Right! Now just for the record, this workbook is not going to be about living in the past, but about preparing for your future.  Sometimes a quick look back can help us obtain clarity and that is the only reason we will go backwards.  Action creates change!  Living in the past does not!  “Embrace change!  Make peace with it!  Allow yourself the joy of growing to your full potential.”  Anna Cannon

Final Bit!

*      List your current goals.

………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………

*      List the goals you have achieved in the past five years.

……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….

*      List the goals you haven’t yet reached

………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..

*      Think about the factors that helped you achieve the goals you have reached.  What are these factors?

…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….......................................................................................................................

*      Think about the goals you haven’t been able to achieve.  Are then any factors that are common to not achieving these?  For me the reasons for non-achievement have usually been lack of self belief, self doubt, and lack of confidence and fear of what others will think of me.  List yours here.

……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………

In my opinion, the biggest obstacle to achieving our goals is our own self doubt and lack of belief.  Sometimes it is necessary for us to examine what we actually believe, as often there are lurking in the back of our minds many nasty little undermining beliefs that hinder us when it comes to living to our full potential.  Sometimes these beliefs are disguised under “religious beliefs” that often seem very honourable, such as “pride is a sin” “money is evil” or “it’s not good to be boastful or successful or to think to highly of yourself”.  These thoughts are often the reason we never rise very high.  The funny thing about this is that the bible actually says that “as a man thinketh, so is he”.  If you believe having money is wrong, you won’t have abundance.  If you believe you are no good, you never will be.  If you believe you should belittle yourself and never enjoy your success, then you never will.

Are you willing to examine your belief systems?  Really pull them apart and see where the truth really is?  The bible also says “the truth shall set you free”.  In my experience it is often the religious beliefs that I have had that have seen my mind filled with fear and lack of self confidence.  If your truth is not setting you free, then you need to examine it and see what it is really doing to you.  Where there is truth there is always freedom.  Truth is not insecure, it doesn’t mind being examined!  When people are too scared to examine what they believe, it is a sure sign that they are a slave to their beliefs.  I am going to challenge you to look at the results of what you are believing and see if they are producing the results you really want.  There is no judgment in this at all.  You must be willing to suspend your judgment and just look at the results.  Is it bringing you freedom and liberty?  Are you more creative and loving as a result of what you believe?  Are your relationships blossoming through your belief or are you constantly experiencing conflict and reaction?  Are you ready to challenge all those underlying automatic responses that come from deep down inside your heart and mind for a long time and see that there is a more fulfilling authentic way to live?

I can honestly say I have had so many destructive beliefs in my mind that I never thought they would be untangled.  I lived in fear for more than two decades.  I felt disempowered by others and I was always in the middle of some conflict or trauma.  My religious beliefs ruled me to the point of self destruction.  I was miserable, condemned and unhappy.  My health was shocking, my relationships poor and my finances in a sad state.  What turned this all around was a simple willingness to examine things in the light of the results that they were producing and to be willing to believe different things about myself.  This has meant a lot of letting go, but it has been worth it a thousand times over.  Every aspect of my life has improved and I am now living my life the way I have always dreamed it could be.  My desire is to help you achieve the same freedom and joy every day you get up whether things be going well or not.
