ANNA CANNON MUSIC STUDIO NEWSLETTER TERM TWO 2012

A warm welcome to all new students.  The studio is running at full capacity at present, but there are still a small number of lesson slots on Friday.   Casual students are welcome whilst they are on my waiting list for a permanent slot.  There are now a large number of Otatara people attending the studio.  It’s so very nice to get to know my neighbours, and I really appreciate the referrals that I know a number of you are giving.

Term starts Monday 23rd April

Term ends Friday 29 June

No lessons on ANZAC day but lessons will be made up in the school holiday, as a number of children are working towards exams and will need to have their full term of lessons.  If extra lessons are required for children undertaking exams, you only need to ask.  Charges apply at the normal rate for lessons.  Senior students generally finish earlier in the year.  If this is the case, could you advise me as soon as possible, and let me know whether you will be returning in 2013.  My roll is completely full and people are waiting for a place, so it is very helpful to know what people’s plans ahead of time.   A few vacancies will become available in term three with students moving out of the area.   Those senior students undertaking advanced exams may have extra lessons at no extra charge, but will finish earlier in term four than everyone else.

EXAM DATES

Please check the web site for closing dates for all exams.  Anyone undertaking exams will be given the relevant costs and time frames in term two.  If you are still thinking about exams, please let me know as soon as possible, as it does take some time for books to arrive from overseas.

GRADUATION – BA (MUSIC)

I graduate on 19th April in Auckland.  I will spend a week with my family, and be able to meet my new grandson Tyler who will be a month old when I arrive.  I made a goal to complete my degree by the time I was fifty, and I managed it by just a few months.  You are never too old to learn!  My current plans for ongoing education in 2012 include entering composition competitions and singing lessons.  Goals help us create a framework for our lives.  Have a think about what yours will be this term.

GUITAR STINGS, PICKS, FAST FRET, TUNERS ETC

I have a supply of picks, tuners, fast fret and guitar strings in the studio at very reasonable prices.  I can also give you a lesson on restringing when you are ready to change your strings.  I have sourced high quality phosphorous bronze strings from America for a great price, so you should be more than happy with the quality.   I also have a guitar foot stool for sale for $25.00 if anyone needs one.

CONCERT PLANNING

It’s time to think about concert planning again.  Everyone is welcome to participate, the only criteria I have is that whatever you choose to play is played to a high standard.  It doesn’t matter whether you are a beginner or an advanced student, participating is awesome and builds your confidence.  We always get a lot of positive feedback.  Talk to me this term, and choose something to work on.

COMPETITIONS

Competitions are held in Invercargill every year around August.  If you think you would like to participate, now is the time to choose some material and start practicing.  Last year a number of my students were very successful and bought home trophies and placing.  This year I will donate a trophy for ten years and under Baroque and Classical music.

PIANOS

For those of you needing to tune your pianos, or if you are looking at purchasing a piano, new or secondhand, please talk to Mr Ford.  I can guarantee you will get an honest appraisal of your own piano.  He will not tune a piano unless it will stay in tune, and he gives sound advice.  If at any time you would like me to take you to view his pianos, please just ask.  His number is 2174336 and he is at 285 Tay Street.  Please mention that I have referred you to him.   If ever you need advice about purchasing new instruments, please feel free to ask.

PRIVACY ACT

If you haven’t filled in a form to give me permission to/or not to use photos and information on my web page, facebook or studio album, please ask for one when you come back.

CELL PHONES

Please ensure I have your cell phone number in case of emergency.  There was a small accident in the studio last term, and it’s good to know that I can get hold of parents quickly if necessary.

BIKES AND DOGS

There is a place to chain your dog behind the studio, and bikes can be left on the gravel behind the studio to ensure no one removes them without permission.  Please keep the gate shut at all times.

EXTENSION CLASSES

These are proving popular so I have decided to have two classes.  Eleven am for grade one and two, and 1pm for students above those grades.  The children attending these classes are getting excellent results at school and in their grades.  If you would like more information, please feel free to contact me.
