SUGGESTIONS FOR OVERCOMING PERFORMANCE ANXIETY
1. Perform in public as much as possible using various coping techniques
to deal with the anxiety or symptoms.
2. Deep breathing exercises before practise routine and prior to preformance.
3. Visualization techniques. Visualization is the act of forming a mental picture
of what you are trying to achieve. Do your own research on this technique
if you think it may benefit you.
4. Ensure you are well prepared to play. Have had plenty of practise and
several practise runs through for a sympathetic audience.
5. Create an in-depth practise schedule. Stick to! This will create quite a
large degree of confidence, knowing that you are well prepared.
6. If anxiety is severe, consult your doctor.
7. Dress appropriately and present yourself with confidence when performing. Do
not apologize for your "playing" to the audience.
8. Make sure you have adequate sleep and drink plenty of water and maintain a good
diet. Address any health issues that might have your concentration. (ie headaches,
sleep issues).
9. Use relaxation techniques.
